Meet Milwaukee’s Expert of the Month: Jay Schmidt We asked him to share some of his expertise on Milwaukee real estate. In 2014, he started the Jay Schmidt Group with his business partner Janine Werner. For six years, JSG has sold the most real estate by dollar value of any team in the Metro Milwaukee MLS. We asked Schmidt to offer his expertise on real estate. Milwaukee Magazine: In such a competitive market, how can a buyer make a winning offer? It’s about hiring the right agent. Anybody can tell a buyer to offer a high price, but there are other ways to make an offer appealing: negotiating the appraisal contingency, for one, or the close date. And then, quite frankly, it comes down to the reputation of your agent. You need a good agent who has the respect of the listing agent to have your offer considered in a competitive situation. With demand so high, what’s the benefit of selling your home with a Realtor? Look at the statistics. Sellers who do for sale by owner or use a discount broker, on average, sell at between 10% and 15% less than those using an agent. A seasoned Realtor knows how to capitalize on the hot market.
